A Message From Colorado FOP President Stephen Schulz To Colorado Business Owners

30 MARCH 2020

Dear Business Manager,

As all of us are aware, COVID-19 is an unprecedented event for our country. Since the earliest days of this pandemic, police, fire, and EMS personnel have been on the front line working around the clock tirelessly providing emergency services to the communities they so proudly serve.

During this national emergency it is imperative for our members to stay healthy in order to continue to provide necessary public safety services to their communities. As such it is essential police, fire, and EMS personnel reduce all potential exposure to the COVID- 19 virus while off duty. That necessitates they eliminate and/or reduce contact with the public as much as possible during off duty hours.

However, first responders, like their fellow citizens, must go to stores to purchase food and other essential daily supplies that they and their families need to make it through this crisis. In recognition of this fact, across the country, we are seeing a growing number of essential businesses providing daily dedicated shopping hours or making other accommodations for first responders and/or their spouses to do their food and supply shopping. As an example many stores are doing this in conjunction with the time frame they have set aside for their associates to shop.

As Colorado’s and the nation’s largest representative law enforcement organization, the FOP is asking for help from your business on this matter by setting aside certain hours or by making other reasonable accommodations you can provide for first responders and/or their spouses to do their shopping with reduced exposure to the public. Anything your business can do to help those who serve to protect our communities will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Stephen Schulz
